Features FACE2FACE
The FACE2FACE TEA Emotions application consists of a free, non-profit application, without advertising and without purchases, whose intention is to serve as support in the learning and recognition of emotions in people with TEA (autism spectrum disorders), but always under the supervision of specialists, parents or guardians and in the exercise of exclusively personal or domestic activities. This application has been financed and developed within the project called “Learning the recognition of emotions in people with autism spectrum”, corresponding to the V edition of the Galileo Plan for Innovation and Transfer of the University of Córdoba, modality IV, UCO-SOCIAL projects -INNOVA, with the collaboration of Obra Social la Caixa.
Later, in 2024, it receives an unfunded update.FACE2FACE Emociones TEA has also had the collaboration of the Niño Jesús Special Education School, Termens Foundation, located in Cabra (Córdoba), Spain, and the work team is made up of professionals from different disciplines (teachers, computer engineers, psychologists).
You can consult the website associated with the project at https://www.uco.es/ayrna/teaprojects/face2face.htmlPlease note that it is a non-profit project, in which the work team has not obtained any financial benefit and is not professionally dedicated to the development and maintenance of applications for mobile devices.More specifically, it is expected that the FACE2FACE application will primarily support boys and girls with ASD in learning and recognizing basic expressions such as joy and surprise.
To do this, the app presents the following functionalities distributed in two modules:- Learning module: Learning about the expression of joy and surprise.
To do this, two animated stories are used, displayed on a television and activated using the play button.
The objective of this module is for the person with ASD to become familiar with these two emotions in order to imitate them in an interactive activity in the second module.- Interactive practice module: Interactive practice where the person with ASD is instructed to imitate the expression of the learned story for joy or surprise.
To do this, you must be in selfie mode with the Android devices camera until the expression that the person with ASD is imitating is automatically captured.
If this imitation is done correctly, a positive message would be provided, and if not, the opportunity to imitate the expression again would be provided.IMPORTANT: Interactive practice must be supervised by an adult or specialist:Predicting the similarity of an emotion depends on many factors: environment in which the emotion is occurring, degree of the emotion, social and personal conditions, race, culture, etc.Place yourself in a place where there is sufficient clarity, if possible without too many objects around, since the capture of the image could be influenced by: light, objects, accessories on the head and face, proximity or distance, device camera, etc.
.If you experience an unexpected operation, use only the learning module, leave the interactive module and work on learning the emotion directly under your supervision with the person with ASD, instructing them to try to imitate the expression in the videos displayed.
